NHL Amateur Draft Database
In the listings below is contained an amateur draft database from Hockey Draft Central (1963-1984) and Wikipedia (1985 to present). Between the hyperlinks of each section, you will find access to information on every player drafted since 1963. The search drop boxes in either site are extremely useful and can bring up much valuable and interesting information on various players and draft years.
For simplification, I have noted each year in reverse order along with the #1 picks. The names in brackets feature players who were also chosen in the same year. Those players were chosen here on a criteria of next best, or better than the first overall picks themselves.

Chris Chelios was drafted in 1981. That's the year I was born!
I watched the 1989 CBC documentary Ken Dryden's Home Game the other day, my friend and I were laughing about all the old players we recognized from hockey cards we collected when we were twelve... then we saw Chelios in one of the clips, and we laughed even more.
I remember his nickname when he first joined the Habs was Sphinx.
Great blog!
I found one mistake with the 2006 list. Erik Johnson, not Ryan Johnson, was the #1 pick that year.
Norm - sometimes I post some things off the top of my head! The top of my head must have been off at the time. Thanks for the correction.
